    First intermodal connection with Romania

July 30th 2018
Lodz, Poland

GOPET Poland cooperates with PEKAES Group

First intermodal train to connect Poland and Romania, launched by GOPET Poland. SPEDCONT Lodz selected as handling terminal.
GOPET Poland has announced the launch of a new block train connecting two of the largest markets in Central and Eastern Europe, Poland and Romania.
An interesting detail consists in the fact that it is the first intermodal train between these two countries.
GOPET already has experience in managing intermodal services, already owning a block train between Romania and Bulgaria since 2014, as well as several regular connections between Romania and Hungary and Germany and Belgium.
GOPET Intermodal Division has faced many challenges in implementing this new block train. First of all, the lack of railway infrastructure across the Tatra Mountains, which would have shortened the route. Under these circumstances, the current route covers approximately 1,000 km, crossing 4 borders, in just 36 hours (transit time between the terminal).
Three of the four borders (Hungary - Czechia - Slovakia - Poland) are in the Schengen area, which reduces checks formalities to only Romanian-Hungarian border.
The choice of terminals was also important in the 'economy' of the total transit time, respectively of the trucking operations at the ends. In Poland, we decided to select SPEDCONT for its proximity to our Lodz office and also for its location in the center of Poland, which makes it possible to efficiently handle smoothly pick-ups and deliveries from clients across all Poland. In Romania, we chose Oradea terminal due to its reduced congestion for the time being.
"Part of the motivation to develop this new block train came from our clients who needed this connection. But there are major advantages in terms of the strategic position of the two countries. We can connect this train with the existing lines that go to Scandinavia. We can also propose links to Balkans, via our other block train to Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Further connection via road with
own fleet makes it easier to reach Sofia or Greece. Plus, market offers us quite a few options, and all of this make us confident in the rapid increase of the train frequency, but also in achieving the maximum composition of 40 units per train’’, says Kamelia Vasileva, Commercial Manager GOPET Poland.
First train tests started on July 11th, 2018 and, thanks to the professionalism of the operational partners involved, went smoothly.
Current setup includes a weekly departure with a composition of approx. 30 units per way, and we using 45' Pallet Wide High Cube Containers. Departures are now set for every Wednesday from Oradea terminal, and for every Friday from SPEDCONT Terminal. GOPET's intention is to rapidly increase the frequency of 2 trains per week, and to 40 units per train.

 "PEKAES Group is constantly investing in the development of its rail groupage network in Europe. Thanks to this cooperation, we gained new operational opportunities on a large scale. Currently, from the SPEDCONT terminal, trains on the Oradea - Łódź route run once a week. From our perspective this is another connection thanks to which we can distribute containers to various parts of Europe. Importantly, it is a regular connection"- says Maciej Bachman, President of the PEKAES Group.
Intermodal transport has several very important advantages:
- Predictability (well-defined timetables, restrictions or limitations announced by operators in time);
- Regularity (trains run continuously, including weekends);
- Security (continuous tracking of units);
- Stability of costs (in the case of significant volumes of goods);
- "Green" - low impact transport of CO2 emissions.

PRESS RELEASE                                                                                                                 Błonie, 31 January 2018
PEKAES increase the warehouse space in Mazovia
PEKAES, a leading logistics operator, opened an additional high bay warehouse in Pass near Warsaw Branch Office. The building is designated to serve contract logistics projects. PEKAES Group plans to make further investments in new distribution terminal this year.

An additional PEKAES logistics warehouse in the Warsaw Branch allows for both the on-shelf storage and block stacking of goods. The building is managed by a modern WMS system.

Due to the rapid increase in volumes as part of LTL distribution, we decided to increase the warehouse space of the Warsaw Branch. We moved operations related to contract logistics to a new building located in Pass near Warsaw Branch, thus increasing the available space in the Warsaw distribution terminal. I would like to add that this year, we are planning further investments in terminal infrastructure – in February we will open another distribution terminal in western Poland – said Maciej Bachman, the CEO of PEKAES Group.

The newly opened PEKAES warehouse is located in close proximity to the distribution terminal of the Warsaw Branch. The building is located on the grounds of the P3 Błonie modern warehouse park, on 19 Passowska street in Pass. The close proximity of national road no. 92 and the A2 motorway ensures excellent connections to all destinations in Poland.
